Welcome to linawo

South Africa is significantly impact by the on-going effects of poverty, crime and HIV/AIDS. In 2002, Linawo was born out of the consequences of these social crises. Despite the years of challenge, opposition and trail, Linawo has been the permanent home to 15 abandoned, neglected and orphaned children for more than 10 years. Ivy Konisi – Founder & Programme Manager Ivy Konisi grew up in the Eastern Cape and was herself an orphan. As the youngest of five children, Ivy was raised for by her grandmother who was a Christian and did not believe in traditional Xhosa customs, including the custom that girls should not be educated but rather married off as soon as possible.
